Of course being the editor in chief I'm sure he won't admit not being able to hear a difference I bet if he had done a blind test as other articles have done, he would've got it wrong several times lol. They were amazed how such a tiny file can sound so close to the original source that in a scale from 1 to 5 they would score the 448 encode a 4.8!Īs for the highest setting allowed by DD, the entire staff except for "Golden ears Morrison" couldn't tell the difference from the Uncompressed track and a DD track at 640. What's even more impressive and to their surprise, Dolby Digital at 448 is TINY compared to an uncompressed track which could take upwards of 2-3GB of storage depending on the length vs like 300MB for the DD 448 and although these guys were able to tell the difference, it was very very slight despite running in a controlled environment and using high end equipment.

I can only get dts core at 1.5mb from the ps3, but this is still very good and much better than standar.
DTS SOUND VS DOLBY 5.1 PS3
I have listened to ubncompressed pcm and dolby true hd on my ps3 and they sound much better than standard digital audio. You may not even believe this but you can take an uncompressed 5.1 from a Blu-ray and compress it using DTS 1.5 or Dolby Digital 640 and even super refined ears that are used to reviewing products using uber high end equipment CANNOT tell the difference in a blind test 1)pcm 5.1,dolby true hd and dts master audio should in theory all sound roughly the same as they are all lossless codecs. Dolby Digital at 640 should handle the most dynamic soundtracks.īut WAIT, I'll go even further. Its all about the sourceĭTS uses a different type of compression that's less efficient than Dolby Digital's, you can't say that an Mpeg 2 with super high bitrate will look better than an AVC encode just because it has a higher bit-rate. sigh, this is the most common mistake when people make comparisons A DTS and Dolby encode at the same output levels sound exactly the same to even the most trained ears. Hmm, that's the problem, most people can't tell a quality difference but only notice exactly what DTS does in their encode which is to add a +db boost which is a level difference, people describe it as being "More pronounced".
